It\u2019s difficult to be vulnerable and reach out to friends and family, let alone a professional, and there\u2019s no denying the role of cultural and social stigma in making it even harder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>For many, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalcouncil.org\/BH365\/2019\/07\/08\/stigma-regarding-mental-illness-among-people-of-color\/\">especially POC, there is an added layer of guilt and shame<\/a> when it comes to therapy. Whether we look at Afro-Caribbean cultures, Arab cultures, Asian or South Asian cultures, many cultures tend to stigmatize mental health in different ways, making it nearly impossible to seek professional help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re struggling, here are some tips to help you get through these challenges:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Acknowledge, understand and accept that it\u2019s okay<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s okay to struggle and find yourself in need of a little help and support. There\u2019s nothing wrong with you needing to take a little time off, seek help from a licensed and qualified professional, and get the support you require. Everybody <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mind.org.uk\/information-support\/types-of-mental-health-problems\/mental-health-problems-introduction\/about-mental-health-problems\/\">has mental health struggles at some point<\/a> or the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Remind yourself that you are not crazy or ungrateful<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Having mental health issues <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalhealth.gov\/basics\/mental-health-myths-facts\">doesn\u2019t make you ungrateful or crazy,<\/a> contrary to popular misconception. But never at the expense of your own boundaries. It\u2019s going to be uncomfortable; there\u2019s no denying that, but it\u2019s so worth it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Find support from individuals in similar situations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Support groups are going to become a saving grace for you in these trying times.
